What Foods Cause Blood Clots – Healthy Cyte

 What is a blood clot

When blood is clotted, make a lump, then it is known as a blood clot, which has a gel-like texture and is rarely present in the young and fair population. Blood clots are necessary at injury sites because these prevent excessive bleeding but may be harmful when unnecessary. It is mostly present in those people who are overweight and smokers. If blood clots are not removed or treated, then these may be lethal.

Types of blood clots

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

As the name indicated, it is formed deep in veins and mostly found in legs or pelvis, but sometimes it is present in arms. After the fragmentation of clots, these fragments move along the bloodstream and become the reason for heart attack, strokes, and other pulmonary diseases.

Pulmonary Embolism (PE)

Pulmonary embolism is blockage of the lung artery because of that clot, which is known as DVT. When these clots move towards the lungs and are stored in the lung artery, they cause lung damage.

Arterial Thrombosis:

Arterial thrombosis is a blood clot produced in an artery and causes an interruption in blood flow.

Blood clots cause various problems, such as:

Heart attack:

When a blood clot blocks a coronary artery from transferring blood to cardiac muscles, heart attacks occur. The blood clot, which causes heart attack, emerges at the ruptured site of atherosclerotic, forming a plaque at the internal lining of the coronary artery.

Mainly stroke is because of disrupted or decreased supply of blood to brain cells. As a result, insufficient oxygen is provided because of reduced hemoglobin; consequently, cell death occurs, and if it is not treated quickly, it may be deadlier.

There are three main types of stroke

Ischemic stroke

Frequently stroke may be ischemic because it is the most common type of stroke resulting from shrinkage or blockage of blood vessels. This narrowing occurs because of the deposition of fats in blood vessels, blood clots, or other unnecessary detritus that flow throughout the bloodstream and stored in the brain’s blood vessels.

Hemorrhagic stroke

Ischemic strokes lead to hemorrhagic stroke, and this stroke happens when leakage of blood vessels of the brain occurs maybe because of high blood pressure, over dosage of anticoagulants, and due to deposition of amino acids or proteins in the walls of blood vessels, which make them fragile and these can be easily ruptured.

Foods that cause blood clots

What food causes blood clots?

Vitamin K is present in spinach, and this vitamin triggers blood clotting. If you have a blood clot, avoid spinach because vitamin K interrupts warfarin, which is used as an anticoagulant.

Kale or leaf cabbage also has a high amount of Vitamin K. If you are on a medication of anticoagulant drugs, then stop consuming it because Vitamin K in kale lowers the effect of warfarin.

Brussels sprouts:

It is another member of the cabbage family; like other leafy veggies, Brussels sprouts are rich in vitamin K and may increase the risk of forming a blood clot so if you are suffering from blood clotting, then stop eating this vegetable.

It is also known as the Swiss chard, a sizeable leafy veggie that is a rich source of vitamin K and hinders the function of warfarin and enhances blood clotting.

Collards are members of Brassica oleracea (Cabbage). They are leafy green vegetables, and like all other leafy greens, it is also a source of vitamin K and triggers blood clotting, which is harmful to those at risk of abnormal blood clotting.

Alcohol stimulates an increased amount of platelets in the blood, so these excessive platelets form blood clots.

Cranberry juice:

This great source of various antioxidants belongs to the genus Vaccinium. It is famous as a super fruit for its extraordinary benefits. Still, it becomes harmful when abnormal blood clotting occurs in the body. You are taking blood thinners or anticoagulants such as warfarin, so cranberry juice increases the effect of warfarin and leads to abnormal bleeding.

Citrus Fruits:

Citrus fruits are always front-line warriors when any problem occurs in the body. Hence, these are also good to avoid blood clotting and improve blood circulation. Everyone knows very well that lemon, oranges, grapefruits, and apples are included in citrus fruits.

Carrots can be used as vegetable or salad. Its juice is beneficial for blood circulation and prevents blood clotting.

Due to the high amount of potassium, it helps increase the flexibility of blood vessels and prevents it from rupture, boosts up blood circulation, and lower blood pressure. As a result, it stops the formation of a blood clot.

If you skip this extra beneficial fruit during summer, you are making a massive mistake because watermelon is the best fruit for a fresh blood supply throughout the body. After all, it lowers the risk of high blood pressure, leading to blood clotting and maintaining it at the standard rate.

Dry fruits that prevent blood clotting

Almond is always at the top of the list of dry fruits for the treatment of many diseases, and no doubt, it also prevents blood clots’ formation because it contains vitamin E, which is good for blood circulation.

α-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid present in walnut, makes it a good option for smooth blood circulation.

This nitric oxide reduces the blood vessel’s shrinkage, making it broadened, and increases the blood flow through vessels.

Ginger is always suggested for weight loss because it has various antioxidants and is well known for its anti-inflammatory functions. It lowers blood pressure, bad cholesterol or LDL, and blood glucose level; thus, it has an indirect effect on blood clotting by lowering all the factors, which may be the reason for blood clots.

Onion is considered a natural blood thinner because it enhances blood circulation and acts as an anticoagulant.

Green tea

Green tea is highly recommended for thousands of diseases, and its effect is just like aspirin if you are suffering from blood clotting; its compounds lowers the production of fibrinogen, which is a protein that promotes blood clotting.
