They are found on either side of the spine, in the back, by producing urine, safe kidneys clean waste products from the blood. <\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They also regulate the sum (such as sodium, potassium, and calcium) of those components in your blood, and create hormones that control blood pressure and red blood cells.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_kidney_failure\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 24pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">What is kidney failure?\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Kidney (renal) failure is when the kidneys do not perform as well as they need to. &#8220;Several issues are covered by the word&#8221; kidney failure. Kidney failure will result in these issues:<\/span><\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You don&#8217;t have enough blood in your kidney to process<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Your kidney is hurt by an infection such as<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">High sugar in the blood (diabetes)<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Elevated Blood Pressure<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Glomerulonephritis (damage to tiny filters in the kidney)<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Disease in polycystic kidneys<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The kidney blocks a kidney stone or scar tissue.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_happens_when_your_kidneys_start_to_fail\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 24pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">What happens when your kidneys start to fail<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Acute kidney failure happens because your kidneys are unexpectedly unable to filter your blood waste. Dangerous amounts of garbage can collect as your kidneys lose their filtering capacity, and the chemical composition of your blood can get out of control.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Acute kidney disease occurs quickly, usually in less than a few days, also known as acute renal failure or critical kidney damage. In individuals that are already hospitalized, acute kidney failure is most likely, mainly in critically ill individuals who require intensive care.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Acute kidney disease can be fatal and has to be treated intensively. Acute kidney disease can be reversible, though. You flood the body with excess fluids and waste materials if the kidneys stop functioning entirely. This is<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">known as uremia. You will swell your hands or feet. You feel drained and exhausted when the body needs the proper functioning of clean blood.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Untreated uremia can lead to seizures or coma and finally kill. You may require dialysis or kidney transplants if the kidneys stop functioning altogether.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Symptoms_of_kidney_failure\"><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 24pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Symptoms of kidney failure<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Someone with kidney disease will usually show a few signs of the condition. There are also no symptoms. Usually, the reason also determines the kind of kidney failure.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Typically, people most at risk have one or more of the following causes:<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Loss_of_blood_flow_to_the_kidneys\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Loss of blood flow to the kidneys<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sudden lack of blood flow to your kidneys will prompt failure of your kidneys. Any factors that allow the kidneys to lose blood supply include:<\/span><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Heart Invasion<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Cardiac Disease<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Liver scarring or failure of the liver<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dehydration Hydration<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A heavy burn<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">An allergic response<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A dangerous infection, including sepsis,<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blood supply can also be limited by elevated blood pressure and anti-inflammatory drugs.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dialysis\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dialysis<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis are the two primary types of Dialysis. Your blood is sent through a filter to extract waste products during hemodialysis. Your body has the clean blood returned. Hemodialysis typically takes place 3-4 hours at a dialysis center each week.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\" data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The fluid is inserted into the abdomen in Peritoneal Dialysis. This fluid stores blood waste materials. The substance containing the residues in your body is washed out after a few hours.
